Ukraine-Russia War: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (December 16) spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over telephone and reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to resolve the Ukraine crisis. The leaders of both the countries also reviewed bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, trade and defence.
A Russian statement said that President Putin presented a basic assessment of Russia’s position on Ukraine at the request of PM Modi. Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, Prime Minister Modi briefed President Putin about India’s current Chairmanship of G-20 and highlighted its key priorities.

This was the fifth telephonic conversation between the two leaders this year. The two leaders held telephonic talks on 24 February, 2 March, 7 March and 1 July. Modi and Putin had a bilateral meeting on September 16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, during which the prime minister told him that today’s era is not of war and he exhorted the Russian leader to end the conflict.
